Caltag Medsystems are the European distributor of StemExpress, a leading supplier of human cord blood and cord blood primary cells.
Currently, there are over 200 clinical trials worldwide investigating the use of cord blood stem cells in regenerative therapy. Cord blood can be effective in the treatment of many blood disorders, as well as cerebral palsy, gestational diabetes, Alzheimer’s, Autism, and stroke.
Stem Express utilise specialised techniques and training to achieve a superior quality of cord blood products. Average cord blood collections result in yields of 0.79×10^9 total nucleated cells (TNCs) and the largest possible draw volume, making every donation count. These higher cell yields significantly increase opportunities for life-saving research.
StemExpress Foundation technicians have been trained in HIPAA, NIH consenting procedures, and hospital and blood-borne pathogen safety. All products are taken with appropriate IRB-approved protocols and consent forms, and all donors are screened for blood-borne viruses with additional screening available on request.

Popular Cord Blood Products
Cord Blood, Fresh
Blood is a specialised bodily fluid that contains red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma, and platelets. It is essential for transporting nutrients, oxygen, and waste as well as fighting infection and regulating body temperature. Umbilical cord blood is the remaining blood found in the umbilical cord after childbirth. It is a rich source of haematopoietic stem cells.
Human whole umbilical cord blood is needle aspirated from the umbilical cord vein using a cord blood collection bag containing the anticoagulant citrate phosphate double dextrose (CP2D). Fresh products have a high viability without the detrimental effects of freezing, thawing, and exposure to cryoprotectants. Umbilical cord blood was obtained using Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved consent forms and protocols
All samples are collected at nearby partner hospitals or clinics and are then quickly processed in StemExpress’ on-site laboratory to achieve maximum viability and quality. Infectious disease testing for HIV, HBV, and HCV is performed on a sample of cord blood by a CLIA-certified lab.

Cord Blood Plasma, Frozen
Plasma is the fluid portion of the blood that allows the transport of leukocytes (lymphocytes, monocytes, dendritic cells, and granulocytes), platelets, and red blood cells to or from the tissues of the body. Plasma helps maintain blood pressure and regulates body temperature. It is composed of proteins, inorganic salts, nutrients, gases, and waste material from the cells as well as various hormones and enzymes.
Human whole umbilical cord blood is needle aspirated from the umbilical cord vein using a cord blood collection bag containing 35 mL of the anticoagulant citrate phosphate double dextrose (CP2D). Plasma is isolated using a density gradient centrifugation protocol. As a result, there is a reduced platelet count in the harvested plasma.
StemExpress offers plasma from human umbilical cord blood form single or pooled donors (custom order).
Cord Blood Mononuclear Cells, Frozen
The mononuclear cell (MNC) fraction is composed of lymphocytes (T cells, B cells, and NK cells), monocytes, dendritic cells, and stem/progenitor cells. These cells are critical components of the immune system and play key roles in the humoral and cell-mediated immune responses. Mononuclear cells are commonly used in research and clinical applications in the areas of immunology, infectious disease, haematological malignancies, vaccine development, transplant therapy, and high-throughput screening.
Human cord blood mononuclear cells are separated from umbilical cord blood by means of a density gradient centrifugation protocol. MNCs are screened for the expression CD45 and checked for viability using flow cytometry prior to cryopreservation. This highly pure population of cells makes them ideal for further isolations of specific cell types within the mononuclear fraction.
Cord Blood CD4+CD45RA+ Naïve Helper T Cells, Frozen
Naïve helper T cells are mature T cells that have left the thymus and have yet to be exposed to an antigen presented on the MHC class II molecule of an antigen-presenting cell (APC). In humans, CD4+ naïve helper T cells are constantly recirculating into the secondary lymphoid tissues in order to optimise the opportunity of finding their specific antigen.
Human cord blood CD4+CD45RA+ naïve helper T cells are enriched by depleting cells expressing CD8, CD14, CD15, CD16, CD19, CD25, CD34, CD36, CD56, CD123, CD45RO, TCRγ/δ, anti-HLA-DR, and CD235a from the mononuclear cell population using immunomagnetic particles leaving purified, untouched CD4+CD45RA+ naïve helper T cells. Isolated cells are characterised by flow cytometry prior to cryopreservation to ensure a highly pure and viable cell population.
Cord Blood CD34+ Stem/Progenitor Cells, Single and Pooled Donors, Frozen
CD34 is a glycosylated transmembrane protein and represents a well-established marker for human haematopoietic stem and progenitor cells in peripheral blood, bone marrow, and cord blood. CD34+ cells are self-renewing, multipotent stem cells that give rise to all blood cells of the immune system through a process called haematopoiesis. As haematopoietic stem cells progress through haematopoiesis they generate the myeloid (monocytes, macrophages, granulocytes, megakaryocytes, dendritic cells, erythrocytes) and lymphoid (T cells, B cells, NK cells) lineages. The highly specialised cells that arise from haematopoietic stem cells work collaboratively in defending the body against infection and disease.
Human cord blood CD34+ stem and progenitor cells are positively selected using immunomagnetic anti-CD34 (clone QBEND10) microbeads from the mononuclear cell fraction. Pooled CD34+ cells are from two or more donors and are available in larger lots. Isolated cells are characterised by flow cytometry prior to cryopreservation to ensure a highly pure and viable cell population.
